Dr. Timothy Pannkuk
Sam Houston State University
Dr. Tim Pannkuk worked in the landscape and nursery industries for 9 years after graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Horticulture from Texas A&M University. He has always had a keen awareness and interest of plants and the environment in which they grow. Later, he completed graduate work, earning a PhD in Soil & Crop Science, and he is now an Associate Professor at Sam Houston State University. Much of his research has been in the area of landscape plant water use and water conservation. Some of these findings are published in HortScience and HortTechnology. Additionally, Dr. Pannkuk teaches several plant science related courses at SHSU which prepare students for careers ranging from industry to research to teaching. Dr. Pannkuk also leads the Texas FFA Nursery/Landscape state competition each May. This event, held at Sam Houston State University, brings about 200 high school students from across Texas who are studying horticulture at their respective high schools. He consistently enjoys teaching and mentoring young people who have an interest in horticultural sciences.
