Eng. Francis Xavier Makhanu is an Assistant Manager, Energy Planning in Business Development Division of KenGen. He is a Mechanical Engineer (University of Nairobi) with an MBA (University of Liverpool-UK), a Professional Engineer Registered by Engineers Board of Kenya and a Corporate Member of Institution of Engineers of Kenya. He has worked in Energy Sector of Kenya for 30 years; 22 years in Hydropower Plants and 8 years in Energy Planning. He has been a member of the National Technical Committee of the Task Force on Energy Sector Review of Kenya for the past 8 years (2011 – 2018) [Draft Energy and Petroleum Policy, 2015, Energy Bill, 2017 and Petroleum Bill, 2017 preparations]. He is currently a member of the National Energy Taskforce on the Implementation of the Energy Act, 2019. He is also member of the working group on Graduate Engineers Internship Programme (GEIP) of Kenya. He is one of the Founder Members of the KenGen G2G Innovation Council. His current professional research interests are in Renewable Energy Power Plants that integrate Hydro, Wind, Solar and Geothermal resources plus Energy Policies, Energy Laws and Energy Regulations.
