1982 Graduate, U.S. Coast Guard Academy Early career afloat on the Cutter Boutwell doing search and rescue in the Bering Sea, then onboard USS HORNE as exchange officer with the Navy. Served in Coast Guard Intelligence in Washington, then in San Francisco in counter-drug operations. Assigned in Puerto Rico for Counter-Drug as well as Search and Rescue and Migrant Operations. Went to Italy as part of NATO for the Bosnian War, led the counter-smuggling operations to keep weapons out of the war zone. The sent to the Naval War College to earn a Master's Degree, then sent to Headquarters in Washington. Next assigned as Liaison to the Navy in the Pentagon, and led the Navy Asymetrical Warfare Group. Next sent to Mobile, Alabama for Law Enforcement and Search and Rescue on the Gulf Coast. Then to Pourtsmouth, Virginia on staff, and next to New Orleans where Captain Mueller led the largest search and rescue operation in U.S. history. Since retiring in 2008, Captain Mueller serves as Vice President of Compliance, Security and Safety at Turn Services, working on the MIssissippi River, and he teaches Maritime Homeland Security at Tulane University. And he recently published a book: "Coast Guard Heroes of New Orleans" outling the amazing rescue operation in New Orelans after hurricane Katrina.
