Reinhard Bauer studied mathematics at the University of Karlsruhe and received his PhD in computer science from Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) in 2010. His field of expertise is discrete algorithmics and combinatorical optimzation as well as energy market forecasting. His main application domains are production and energy optimization. After being a power market analyst at a large German utility, he joined the ABB corporate research center in Ladenburg, Germany. There, he heads a research group for industrial optimization. His main research interest is discrete algorithms for rich real-world problems, mainly for industrial applications. Besides that he is open for any problem that contains modeling, simulation or optimization of discrete real-world problems.
