Vice Admiral Doug Crowder retired from the Navy on 1 January 2010. His last assignment was as Deputy Chief of Naval Operations for Operations, Plans and Strategy (N3/N5), the senior advisor to the Chief of Naval Operations on joint operations and strategies, strategic planning, international politico-military matters, and security assistance.
Admiral Crowder has commanded at sea at every level, including command of USS KIDD (DDG-993), Destroyer Squadron TWENTY FOUR, and the USS ABRAHAM LINCOLN CARRIER STRIKE GROUP. Additionally, he served as Commander, Combined Support Group Indonesia, during the 2004-05 tsunami relief operations. From 2006-08, Admiral Crowder served as the Commander of the US SEVENTH FLEET, commanding all US Navy forces throughout Asia and the Western Pacific.
Ashore, Admiral Crowder served 10 different assignments in the Pentagon, including duty on the Joint Staff, Secretary of the Navy’s staff, and seven tours on the Chief of Naval Operations’ staff, most in the politico-military and strategic planning arena.
Admiral Crowder is a 1974 graduate of the US Naval Academy, graduating with distinction with a Bachelor of Science degree. In 1980 he was selected an Olmsted Scholar and studied European Economic and Political Affairs at the University of Lausanne, Switzerland.
After his retirement from the Navy, Admiral Crowder served as Chief Operating Officer at two business units within Boeing Defense, Integrated Information Systems. He retired from the Boeing Company in September 2013. He is currently the President, CROWDER STRATEGIES & SOLUTIONS, LLC; an independent consultancy focused on leadership, management, strategic planning and international security affairs.
He also serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Olmsted Foundation, a non-profit educational foundation that provides junior military officers with opportunities to live abroad and study at the graduate level in a foreign language.
