Dr. Colin Soutar is currently a Senior Manager within Deloitte Advisory. After finishing his studies in Dundee Scotland, Colin started his career with a two-year post-doctoral stint at NASA’s Johnson Space Center, developing pattern recognition techniques for autonomous rendezvous and capture operations. He then applied similar pattern recognition and classification techniques to fingerprint systems for over a decade as the chief technology officer of Bioscrypt, a public company based in Toronto Canada, specializing in biometric technologies. Subsequently, Colin has worked on cybersecurity systems that encompass identity and privacy elements. He currently supports several programs at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) including the National Strategy for Trusted Identities in Cyberspace, Privacy Engineering, and the NIST Cybersecurity Framework, for which he facilitated all of the NIST Workshops. Colin has held many officer and editor roles in national and international cybersecurity standards committees.
