Rice
Tom Rice
Thomas M. Rice was born in 1921 and was attending San Diego State when he enlisted in the Army, in 1942. After training, he joined the 101st Airborne Division. Rice had saw combat in Normandy- including D-Day; the Netherlands; Bastogne, Belgium; and Austria-Yugoslavia; and was wounded 3 times. Military honors include 4 campaigns, Purple Heart with 2 Oak Leaf clusters, 2 invasion arrows, Combat Infantry Badge, Bronze Star with cluster, Good Conduct Medal, French Fourregue, Belgium Lanyard and Parachutist Badge. Since the war Tom taught high school social studies for 44 years and coached Track and Field for 25 years. His memoirs “Trial by Combat: A Paratrooper of the 101st Airborne Division Remembers the 1944 Battle of Normandy” (AuthorHouse) was published in 2004.
