As the founding Principal and President of site design group, ltd., Ernest C. Wong has been instrumental in the success of the firm as well as the development of Chicago’s leading-edge landscape architecture and urban design profession. Throughout its 26 year history, site design group, ltd. has grown to 21 professionals, including LEED accredited and licensed landscape architects, planners, and architects. As a Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) and Disadvantaged Business Entreprise (DBE), site design group, ltd. has been a member of the National Minority Supplier Development Council since 2009. Under Mr. Wong’s leadership, the firm has become synonymous with unprecedented creative design and beautifully detailed urban spaces, resulting in numerous national and international design awards. Mr. Wong is a member of the American Society of Landscape Architects Council of Fellows, American Planning Association, the Urban Land Institute., and was elected to Lambda Alpha International in 2006, the Honorary Society for the Advancement of Land Economics. Currently serving as Commissioner on both the Chicago Landmarks Commission and the Commission on Cultural Affairs, Mr. Wong’s commitment to civic leadership is unwavering. Mr. Wong’s not-for-profit leadership is exemplified by his board service for the Chinese American Service League, Student Conservation Association, YWCA Metropolitan Chicago, the Economic Club of Chicago, and the President’s Council of the Museum of Science and Industry. He serves on numerous professional juries including the Driehaus Award for Architectural Excellence in Community Design, the Schriff Foundation Awards, the Chicago Architecture Foundation Newhouse Design Awards, Enterprise Community Partners’ Affordable Housing Design Leadership Institute, and the National Endowment of the Arts (NEA) Our Town Panel, making recommendations for grant awards for creative placemaking projects throughout the country.
