John Randolph is a Principal Engineer for PG&E’s Substation Engineering Services, currently supporting special technologies like SVCs, energy storage, 500 kV series capacitors, and yes, animal abatement challenges. His 33 years’ experience includes substation project engineering, standards, high-level PV penetration, compliance and maintenance. John received his BS degree in Electrical Engineering from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo in 1983. His IEEE/PES involvement started as Chair of the Power Engineering student chapter, and more recently includes Chair of the Substations Committee, Technical Council Awards Chair, and now Chair of working group E5. John is a Registered Professional Engineer in State of California, and currently the US representative for CIGRE Study Committee B3 Substations and a member of its Advisory group.
