Jim Wilson found his passion for Electric Reliability engineering over his 33 years with Duke Energy. He first specialized in Distribution Reliability before transferring into Transmission/Substation engineering. In an effort to quantify the strengths and weaknesses of design and practice, Jim became focused on accurate and thorough failure data collection. This enabled Jim to identify the extent of problems with animal faults, as well as the many other failure trends that are detrimental to the company’s equipment and their customers’ electric needs. This failure data analysis also enabled the evaluation of attempts at mitigating the failures. After retirement from Duke, Jim has become a consultant for VANQUISH Fencing, Inc., which continues his interests in solutions to substation animal concerns, as well as other substation intrusion problems.
