In 2002, Dr. Roland van Vliet (44) obtained his PhD in Chemistry from the University of Amsterdam. He then joined the department of Lithography of Dutch research organization TNO as researcher and later as project manager in the field of particulate and molecular contamination control realizing and installing several experimental and production facilities at industrial partners. In 2006, he became head of the department of Semiconductor Equipment at TNO, P&L responsible for the department daily operations, including (human) resource management, infrastructure investments and contacts to the academic community. As part of the management team of the Business Unit Opto-Mechatronic Instrumentation, he served for three years as deputy BU manager. From January 2010 to April 2016 Roland served as Program Director Semiconductor Equipment, responsible for the development and implementation of the TNO strategic business and technology roadmaps Semiconductor Equipment, Industrial Instrumentation and Quantum Computing. April 2016 Roland became CEO of the start-up company Nearfield Instruments, a metrology equipment company based on high-throughput parallel atomic force microscopy. Roland holds a M.Sc. in Chemical Engineering, an Honorary M.Sc. in Process Systems Engineering (both from the University of Amsterdam) and an Executive Masters of Business Innovation from TIAS School for Business and Society (Tilburg University).
