Dr. Rodney A. Perala B.S. (Electrical Engineering), University of Minnesota, 1965 M.S.E.E. (Electrical Engineering), University of Minnesota, 1966 Ph.D. (Electrical Engineering), University of Denver, 1971 Dr. Perala cofounded EMA in 1978, and is the president and owner. Dr. Perala has an international reputation derived from active involvement in electromagnetic effects research and development since 1973. This includes the technical areas of nuclear EMP (Electromagnetic Pulse), high power microwave, high intensity radiated fields (HIRF), electromagnetic radiation (EMR), EMC/EMI, lightning, and static electricity. He has been involved in many aerospace and terrestrial systems, including fixed and rotary wing aircraft, airships, rockets, missiles, tanks, C3 facilities, sheltered and mobile systems, ground vehicles and railroads. He has performed many railroad projects in the last 18 years in the areas of lightning protection, power line interference and wayside electromagnetic propagation. He has written more than 400 reports, articles, technical papers, and conference presentations on these subjects. This includes joint authorship of a cover article "Aircraft Jolts from Lightning Bolts," IEEE Spectrum, July 1988, and joint authorship of a book "Lightning Protection of Aircraft" in 1990. He has served on the committees SAE AE4L/AE2L, Lightning Protection of Aircraft and SAE AE4R, Protection of Aircraft to High Energy Radio Frequency Fields. He was elected as an EMP Fellow of the Summa Foundation in 1998 for his contributions to High Power Electromagnetics interaction simulation and modeling.
