Dr.-Ing. Jiri Koutnik graduated in 1993 at the University of Brno, (Czech Republic), and he gained his Dr. degree (corresponding to PhD) in 1998 from the same institution. From1993 to 2003 he worked for CKD Blansko on the dynamics of hydraulic systems and turbines, with special focus on Pump Turbines. Since joining Voith Hydro in Germany in 2003 he has been dealing with the dynamics of complete power plants, i.e. with dynamic phenomena in hydraulic / mechanical / electrical systems, supporting also various pumped storage projects in different phases, starting from planning, through design up to troubleshooting. Simulation studies with respect to interaction of hydraulic power plants with the electrical grid belong to his special interest and responsibility. He has been Head of Advanced R&D and Numerical Development at Voith Corporate headquarters since 2004.
