John Schaad has worked 28 years as a Customer Service & Planning Engineer (electrical) with BPA Transmission Services in Eugene, Oregon, working with BPA’s customer utilities, with generation interconnection/integration projects, and local transmission planning. John participated in the first Oregon Ocean Renewable Energy Conference in Newport, Oregon in 2006 and in all others since. Projects include the original OPT Reedsport Wave Energy Project, the first Utility-Scale PV Solar project on the BPA system, the Oregon State University Pacific Marine Energy Center (PMEC) and PACWave Grid-Connected Wave Energy Test Site; participation in the Oregon Territorial Sea Plan Advisory Committee, BOEM Oregon Ocean Renewable Energy Task Force, IEC Power Quality Standards Development TC-114 Power Quality Standard for Marine Energy Conversion devices, and the Camp Rilea/Clatsop County Energy Security Strategy and Ocean Renewable Energy Feasibility Study. He has participated in a number of EPRI, PowerTech Labs, BPA, OWET, POET, and NREL marine renewable-energy-related R&D and study projects. John worked 17-years for CH2M-Hill Consulting Engineers, with professional registration in Oregon and Maryland at the time; and 5-years with rural electrification in Ecuador, South America as a Peace Corps Volunteer. He has a B.S Degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Oregon State University.
