Andrew Hamann graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 2012 with his Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (with Highest Honors). From 2012 to 2015, he was a doctoral student in the Department of Engineering and Public Policy at Carnegie Mellon University. He received his Master's degree in Engineering and Public Policy in 2014. Since 2015, he has been a doctoral student and scientific assistant in the Power Systems Laboratory at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETH Zurich). He has held internships at the Applied Research Laboratories and at the Lower Colorado River Authority. His academic honors include the Steinbrenner Institute Robert W. Dunlap Graduate Fellowship (2013-2014), the Hydro Research Foundation Hydro Fellowship (2013-2014), Bertucci Graduate Fellowship (2012), and the Virginia and Ernest Cockrell, Jr. Scholarship in Engineering (2008-2012). His graduate research is on the real-time optimization of the Mid-Columbia hydropower system, with a specific focus on modeling the integration of variable wind generation. More broadly, he is interested in improving the operations of electric utilities through data analysis and simulation.
