Ed Zapel, M.S., P.E. is a Senior Hydraulic Engineer at Northwest Hydraulic Consultants’ Seattle, Washington laboratory and has been with the company for 14 years. Ed has a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and a Master’s degree in Hydraulic Engineering, both from Washington State University, and is currently a PhD candidate at the University of Washington in the Fisheries Science program. Ed has more than 27 years of experience in hydraulic design in a variety of applications related to hydroelectric projects, including spillways, powerhouse facilities, valves, gates, and locks. Ed also has extensive experience in the design and evaluation of fish passage facilities and fish passage issues on major Pacific Northwest and California rivers. Ed served as a Principal Investigator for the Long Lake Total Dissolved Gas (TDG) modeling studies described in this paper.
