Martin O’Farrell is a Fisheries Biologist based in Dublin, Ireland. After obtaining a Ph.D. in Zoology (Freshwater Fisheries Research) at the National University of Ireland, he worked for the Central Fisheries Board, Ireland on the management of Atlantic salmon and sea trout recreational fisheries. Martin has been involved in fisheries management and fisheries issues associated with the design and operation of hydroelectric and thermal electric generating stations throughout the U.K. and Europe. He represented Normandeau Associates in Europe during the years 1997-2004 and participated in turbine tests for Atlantic salmon smolt passage in Ireland, Scotland and Russia. He also participated in steelhead smolt turbine passage tests on the Willamette River, Oregon and in American eel turbine passage tests at Moses-Saunders Dam on the St Lawrence River in 1997. He introduced the rotary screw trap and the Hi-Z Turb’N tag to Europe. More recently he is spearheading Smith-Root’s expansion in Europe.
