Ed Wojczynski has been responsible at Manitoba Hydro for the pre-construction phase of new hydro projects including project management, planning, environmental studies, community consultation, aboriginal partnerships and regulatory approval for the 200 MW Wuskwatim, 695 MW Keeyask and 1485 MW Conawapa new hydroelectric projects He was chair of the Canadian Hydropower Association. He is an active participant in Canadian efforts by industry to enhance the environment assessment and regulatory process. As a member of IHA he actively participated in development and testing of the Sustainability Assessment Protocol. He was the Manitoba Hydro executive responsible for developing the aboriginal partnership approach for new generation. He led the consultations and negotiations for the 2006 partnership in Wuskwatim which resulted in the local indigenous community being a 33% co-owner and a supporter of the project and similarly for Keeyask with four indigenous communities owning up to 25% of the project. Both involved comprehensive development agreements with community ratification votes in support of the partnerships and joint management with the communities in planning, environmental assessment, licensing and ongoing partnership management.
