Central Washington University
Kenneth "Ken" Smith joined Central Washington University as an Associate Professor in 2014. His teaching and research focus on measuring the financial and non-financial performance of government and nonprofit organizations. He is interested in how these organizations use information and communicate amongst one another. Ken is President and Co-founder of the Institute for Better Governance, and Past-President of the Association of Government Accountants, Seattle Chapter. He has written several articles, blogs, and book chapters including the governmental chapters of the 12th edition of an Advanced Accounting textbook. His former work experience includes: owning his own business; serving as the interim Executive Director for an international nonprofit; auditing and litigation support with CPA firms; and faculty appointments at Texas A&M University, Pepperdine University and Willamette University. In 2012 he received the Lifetime Achievement Award for Government Accounting Research from the Association for Government Accountants.
