Dr. Lens, born 1980, obtained a degree from the Technical University of Darmstadt, Germany, in Electrical and Information Engineering and a PhD in 2009 from the Institute of Automatic Control at the same university. He has been with STEAG Energy Services GmbH since 2010, where he made intensive experience with the increase of the flexibility of thermal power plants by means of advanced automatic control tools. Dr. Lens was significantly involved in the establishment of the Advanced Process Control group, whose primary function is to optimize the control of power plants in order to reach better operation stability, faster load changes, and a larger load range.
