Salumatics upgrades hospital services with the IRISXtract™ Solution Platform

Since 2000, Salumatics has helped their clients to meet their healthcare information management requirements.

Today Salumatics is a leading North American information and document management provider for healthcare  organizations.

The Salumatics team brings a high-degree of expertise - including 10 years of experience using ICD-10 diagnostic coding - so they are able to provide highly flexible, secure and innovative solutions to their clients.

The wide portfolio of solutions goes from risk mitigation, electronic document management, health record coding, data quality audit to document conversion and indexing.

Improved Access to Patient Information

The development of automatic document classification and highly private patient information extraction is at the forefront of the healthcare agenda in the Americas.

Large and medium size hospitals often rely on the help of outsourcing services as document management doesn’t belong to their core business as a provider of healthcare. Although there are many outsourcing companies with general document management skills, hospitals’ requirements demand a business partner experienced in their specific needs.

Salumatics’ leadership brings in-depth healthcare knowledge based on working with Health Canada, provincial health ministries, The Cleveland Clinic, Mayo Clinic, active participation in HIMSS and COACH, and has built their business solving difficult automation problems for their hospital clients.

In 2012, Salumatics is implementing a new healthcare provider solution for automatic document classification and metadata extraction. This initial project for hospitals will generate an automatic classification up to 30 million pages per year including field-level data extraction such as patient name, date of birth, physician notes, insurance ID, etc.

In parallel to this first installation and with their wish to bring an extra added value to their broad portfolio of solutions, Salumatics is developing an Accounts Payable solution for the automatic processing of incoming invoices.  This solution addresses one of the costliest manual operations in a hospital business office.  This new Salumatics Accounts Payable solution is also built upon the IRISXtract™ platform.

“We are very happy about the introduction of the automatic recording solution“, explains Shawn Morrison, Chief Technology Officer at Salumatics. “We are able to process high volumes of invoices faster and more efficiently with the same solution that we use for document classification. This is a real advantage for us.”

“With aggressive deadlines, our organization had a very narrow window to design, train, implement and test the system. We had less than 6 months to select the perfect match to our needs.

I.R.I.S. technologies is the solution that we selected because it addresses our technical requirements with ease, it fits in with our tailor-made client services and was well received by our users that are key to our business who found it easy to use with minimal training required.”

“Data  classification  and  business  process  automation  are becoming  more  and  more  important  aspects  for  the  North American market. The Salumatics partnership will help hospitals realize their goal of a nearly paperless environment. It promotes business effectiveness and efficiency, while   striving   for   innovation,   flexibility   and   integration    with    Salumatics‘    technologies“,    says    David    Dejean,    Head    of    Partner    Sales,    Americas    at    I.R.I.S.

Efficiency Gains

The  key benefits Salumatics has achieved with this I.R.I.S. solution are efficiency and cost effectiveness.

IRISXtract™ for Documents is a flexible product platform for document classification and data extraction.  The  essential  component  is  the  quick  and  secure    classification  method  “IRISXClassify”,  which  allows  the  intelligent  use  of  different  document  properties  (words,  phrases,  regular  expressions,  complex  properties) combined with  complementary   layout classification  procedures  (rules-based,  statistical  and  graphical  methods).

Moreover, IRISXtract™ for Documents has the ability to write statistical entries into a separate database while processing multiple batches and the related documents.  This Production Database reports all processes and procedures that take place when using IRISXtract™ for Documents. This Production Database ensures the direct availability of all relevant information for management, control, visibility and compliance.

Future Projects

Now that the organization has met the initial implementation schedule, we are making plans for Phase 2.  This next phase will allow Salumatics to propose their new solution to all their new and existing clients.

Scott McMillan, Vice President of Business Services at Salumatics, confirms the positive development: “When we spoke to I.R.I.S. we realized that IRISXtract™ was truly a superior, more advanced  and  extensive  solution  and  that  we  could  provide an  outstanding  service  to  our  clients  more  quickly  by  combining  IRISXtract™ with  our  own  applications  and  processes.“
