Turquoise Mountain is proud to present the Bamiyan Collection made by Ishkar and Turquoise Mountain Afghan artisans. To develop the Bamiyan Collection, Ishkar asked the artisans what they thought best represented their country. Responses included the mountainous lanscape of Afghanistan to the richness in minerals and the Buddhas of Bamiyan. The Buddhas of Bamiyan were carved into the mountainous cliff edges of the Bamiyan valley in the Hazarajat region of Afghanistan pre 6th century AD. They were surrounded by caves which were part of a monastic ensemble; the caves have been ecavuated in the last five years, but beforehand, they were called home by some of the local people of Bamiyan. The designs of the Bamiyan Collection use the shapes of the empty Buddhas and the surrounding cave filled gemstones such as Spinel and Lapis Lazuli.
