LGBTQ people are disproportionately burdened by various health disparities and also often experience discrimination in healthcare settings. In order to better address and reduce these health disparities, it is essential to be educated on the unique issues affective the lives and well-being of LGBTQ people. It is also critical to understand how to provide culturally competent and affirming care to LGBTQ patients. This session will give an overview of the LGBTQ community, the health disparities affecting this community, and strategies for creating a welcoming environment and improving the quality of care provided to LGBTQ patients.
