Opioids are the biggest public health threat in Indian Country, causing tribes to expend hundreds of millions to stop this epidemic. Over 80 Tribes have filed suit in the National Prescription Opiate Multidistrict Litigation (“MDL”) alleging that the manufacturers and distributors of opioids have caused the opioid epidemic in their communities. This session will discuss the history, significant developments and future prospects for Tribes in this litigation.
