DNV GL is leading the development of a new Recommended Practice (RP) for the repair of composite wind turbine blades. The Blade Repair RP will fill a technical and operational void in the current US and global industry, and is intended to both guide best-practice for operation and maintenance as well as provide basis for certification of blade repairs, repair independent service providers (ISPs) , and training/certification of ISP workforce. DNV GL is developing this RP via a Joint Industry Partnership (JIP), with involvement of blade/turbine original equipment manufacturers, wind project owner-operators, blade repair ISPs, and other industry stakeholders. This blade repair JIP was initiated in 2018 and the development of the corresponding RP will be a 2-year effort beginning January 2019.
