This presentation describes how autonomous microgrid control and protection systems function. After a person configures the electronics with control (DIP) switch selection, all communications, controls, and protection configure automatically. Distributed energy resources (DERs), relays, and controllers are aware of each other, thereby allowing the system to run without human intervention. The presentation shares several advanced control and communications methods, including an intuitive condition monitoring system. Also shared are interoperability results of generators from multiple manufacturers. These microgrid control and protection systems reduce the cost, complexity, and risk of microgrid adoption.
