The management of environmental “big data” at air and waste facilities is critical in maintaining regulatory compliance and evaluating facility operations, especially due to the onset of “next generation” monitoring and automated field data capture tools. Pairing a relational database with a Geographic Information System (GIS) creates a sound storage solution and map-based interface for graphical access to environmental and operational data. This presentation will examine a variety of benefits to using GIS-based systems linked to compliance databases and demonstrate their ability to manage environmental and site-specific data, perform trend analysis, generate regulatory reports, and automatically alert site staff of compliance issues.
