Tracks: Posters, Technology and Innovation

A number of diverse floating wind concepts has been tested at demonstration sites around the world (Hywind Scotland breaking production records). Technology will inevitably be different for the first large-scale wind farms, comprising 10s of units at a single site. When will costs reduce and by how much? Zoning for prospective wind farms has taken account of wind resources, geology, bathymetry, grid connections, environmental sensitivities. Lifetime levelized cost of energy (LCoE) has been estimated base on costs for all phases, systems and technology categories. Rational comparisons are possible between sites, technologies and operational strategies. Relationships between local US geological conditions, mooring and anchor technology have been captured in the models and used to evaluate different sites. Many tried solutions, such as drag anchors, suction caissons, piles and weights will be unsuitable for the US. Drilled piles and tension legs have still to be demonstrated.
