With the expected proliferation of offshore wind in the North-East US, one has to step back and take look at how best to integrate this new energy resource that will be accompanied by a decrease in conventional generation and increase of other types of renewables such as solar and energy storage. This presentation will look at the various options for interconnecting these resources, some of the technical pitfalls to be aware of, the ability to accommodate a high degree of energy variability in a relatively small geographic area and how to look forward to the grid of the future where one can transmit the offshore generated energy further inland to other potential markets.
