The Carbon Trust’s Offshore Wind Accelerator recently ran a competition targeted at driving innovation in subsea services for offshore wind – the competition was focused on new subsea inspection technologies that could be used for understanding the integrity of offshore wind assets. There was significant interest from the oil and gas industry, and one of the winners came from both an oil and gas heritage and from the US – Oceaneering. The Carbon Trust and its Offshore Wind Accelerator partners are now offering Oceaneering and the other winners mentoring and advice to transition into this new industry, as well as providing access to operational offshore wind farm sites to test out their concepts. This will be used as a case study to show how subsea industries could access the burgeoning offshore wind market in the US, and also highlight some of the potential issues that subsea companies might face when entering the new market.
