The Department of the Interior's Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) is the lead Federal agency responsible for offshore renewable energy development on the Atlantic Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) in Federal waters. To date, BOEM has issued thirteen commercial wind energy leases offshore Delaware, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Rhode Island, and Virginia. In addition to these leases, BOEM has identified Wind Energy Areas offshore Wilmington North Carolina and Call Areas offshore South Carolina and New York. BOEM has also received unsolicited lease requests offshore Massachusetts, New Jersey and New York. BOEM continues to see a strong interest in offshore renewable energy projects on the OCS.
