Offshore WINDPOWER Conference & Exhibition 2018

Using Commercial Fishing Data in Engagement and Development (Room Regency)

There are a variety of data sets that are publicly available that characterize the spatial extent of the types of commercial fishing that occur on the OCS.  This data can help offshore wind developers, state and federal regulators, NGOs, and other stakeholders relate to the commercial fishing interests in the region.  While those data sets can be helpful in the siting, permitting, and stakeholder engagement efforts associated with offshore wind development, the data also have their limitations and need to be used in a way that's responsible and transparent.  During this interactive session you will hear from those that generate the data, and those who use the data for a variety of uses.  Learn what developers and fishers like and don’t like, and which datasets they prefer and for what reasons.
