*Targeted Learning Track - Esthetics: Separate Fee Requirement* Melanie Timms, Director, Marketing Innovation & Education, CBI Laboratories Mastering the Microbiota: Understanding the Delicate Balance for Healthy Skin As skin is the largest and the most exposed organ, it is responsible for providing the first barrier defense from environmental elements, such as UV radiation, urban pollution, and chemicals. In addition, the skin microbiome is an ecosystem inhabited by a community of more than a million microorganisms and recent studies suggest a strong connection between a balanced microbiome and healthy skin. Furthermore, emerging research suggests an imbalanced skin microbiome is connected to infections, inflammatory reactions, cutaneous diseases, and breakouts. This informative presentation will look at the real opportunity to explore how microbes are involved in a healthy skin barrier and how certain specific ingredients affect them, as well as enhance the overall microflora on the skin.
