The next generations of Spa will have to create opportunities that establish customer care, client connections, and build relationships. With 60% of the world’s Population set to live alone by 2020 according to the Global Wellness Institute, Spas have the chance to serve has more than day makers but life enhancers. Sherrie Tennessee started her career in the scientific world, with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. Ms. Tennessee spent seven years as a researcher at world-renowned organizations including Johns Hopkins University and MedImmune. Ms. Tennessee has used her science background for the last has 16 years in the Spa and Wellness industry including the role of a massage therapist, nail tech, spa owner, speaker, professor, educator, and author. In addition, to receiving multiple awards throughout her career, Sherrie’s writings have been published in some highly-respected industry outlets, and she has been asked to speak at many public forums. As a professor at Johnson and Wales University, she provided leadership in the development and instruction of the Spa Management course. As the Group Education manager at Sandals Resorts International, Red Lane Spas Sherrie launched the Red Lane Institute to provided US-based training to the therapist in the Caribbean. Ms. Tennessee is completing a Ph.D. and holds a Master of Business Administration with a concentration in marketing and entrepreneurship. Sherrie published her first book in 2016; How to Open a Day Spa:31-Day Guide. Sherrie is a Certified Hospitality Educator (CHE) and Certified Hospitality Trainer (CHT) with the American Hotel and Lodging Education Institute - AHLEI. Sherrie is the new Director of Spa and Wellness at Mandarin Oriental in Washington, DC.
