Lab Water Design - A Case Study (Room GWCC 311)

03 Oct 18
10:00 AM - 11:15 AM

Tracks: System Design

Speaker(s): Mark Girgenti
Lab water design is a multifaceted topic consisting of high purity water generation, loop design, central system, point of use systems, aqueous waste collection/transfer and solvent collection. The presentation will focus on a recently completed college laboratory building. The building consisted of clean rooms as well as an additional wet lab space. The presentation will work through the case study covering the complete design of the lab water systems. The attendee will take away from this session. 1) Proper high purity loop design, calculations, and a look at the different types of materials used. 2) Central high purity design and a look at the strategic implementation of point of use systems. This will also include how the required water quality is determined for different labs in the building. 3) The waste water collection and transfer design, looking at both gravity and pump lift stations. 4) How to handle and implement solvent collection in the lab space. 5) Design of the waste water treatment system for the lab building.
