Tracks: System Design

Despite an ever increasing number of rainwater systems going into service in North America, consistency in design remains elusive. This is typically due to the designer’s unfamiliarity with best practices and frequent exclusion of key components. Two key factors are crucial to the success of a rainwater system: early planning and analyzing the system as a whole. . We will discuss inlet pre-filtration, storage options, sizing methods and analyze how scale affects the overall design. We will focus on and explore the why’s, how’s and where’s of rainwater system design and the necessary aspects for successful implementation.. Learner Objectives: 1\. Describe the major types and to what types of buildings the filters are most effectively suited. 2\. Identify the critical inverts associated with each major type. 3\. Discuss how inlet water velocities affect the functioning and effectiveness of the filter. 4\. Illustrate the optimal locations for best practices in terms of installation in a commercial building.
