OSHA and NFPA combustible dust standards require any potential combustible dust hazard to be assessed and mitigated. However, the complexity and urgency of these hazards often overwhelm facilities. This presentation will shed light on the most common mistakes associated with combustible dust hazards, and will discuss ways that these common mistakes can be avoided. These mistakes include, but are not limited to, underestimating or not fully understanding the hazards posed by combustible dust, assuming all process equipment is designed to eliminate combustible dust hazards, assuming all individuals have the necessary expertise to perform Dust Hazards Analyses (DHAs), and misinterpreting the numerous combustible dust standards.
