19 - What Employees Think About Safety: Trends from Safety Culture Assessments and Focus Group Interviews (Room 25B)

This session highlights more than 20 years of safety culture assessments – including information from more than 300,000 safety culture survey responses from hundreds of organizations, structured employee interviews, and safety management systems and leadership behavior assessments. Although most employees believe leaders care about safety, much more is still expected from leadership to help build an ideal safety culture. Comments from employee interviews will be highlighted, demonstrating the level of emotion and honest feelings employees are sometimes fearful to express directly to management. We’ll also discuss common sources of misunderstandings between front-line employees and organizational leaders.
