Fifteen million temporary and contract employees are hired by staffing agencies each year, and they represent a vastly disproportionate number of workplace fatalities. Working in short-term assignments, temporary employees are constantly new to the workplace and often are assigned to hazardous positions that are otherwise difficult for employers to fill. Hard safety lessons from temporary worker injuries have led safety professionals in the staffing industry to step up in new and different ways.
