Session 6 - Blast Reporting – Are You on Your Game? (Room Capitol Ballroom 1-4; Fourth Floor)

25 Jan 20
2:00 PM - 2:50 PM
Speaker(s): John Watson
Blasters today face an increasing need to ensure all aspects of their blasting logs and reports are as accurate as possible in order to meet regulations, reduce the risk of litigation and increase the level of transparency to clients, regulators and the public whenever needed. Too often, blast log errors and omissions don’t reflect the true details of the blast’s “as loaded” data and misfires, fly rock incidents, or regulatory inspections can become very difficult circumstances to try and explain the variances. This session will take an interactive (and fun) approach to review some of the more common errors and omissions that increase one’s liability in addition to damaging one’s reputation and perceived professionalism. The goal of the program will be to heighten your awareness of the importance of accurate, consistent and complete blasting logs and shot reports. Regulatory compliance, accident investigations, damage liabilities, misfire analysis may all be at risk if Blast Reports are not accurate reflections of your blasting program. More importantly, your reputation and perceived professionalism as a blaster or blast engineer may be at is at stake. The presentation will include a “game card” to help attendees follow along with the program and make notes about those critical errors and omissions in blast reporting and mistakes made by accident (or purposely) by the presenter. Come prepared to see if you are “on your game” with blast reporting and have some fun!
