C22: Corrosion Basics and Prevention (Room S501D)

11 Nov 19
10:00 AM - 11:30 AM

Tracks: Finishing, FINISHING

Corrosion manifests in different ways depending on the preparation of a particular substrate and the environment end-use of the product. The ability to minimize corrosion of a metal surface is achieved by addressing an assortment of factors including incoming metal quality, surface preparation, and coatings technology. The combination of these factors will be dependent on the performance requirements and determine the life-cycle of the finished product. The fundamentals of corrosion and basic accelerated testing methods will be presented, as well as best practices for building a sound base to protect product integrity. If completed properly, corrosion prevention can be achieved through the appropriate selection of substrate and pretreatment combined with the proper electrocoat technology.
