Hybrid Induction Cutting of Metal at Very High Speed on the Factory Floor or Using Mobile or Portable Robotics Outdoors
A new metal cutting process has been invented which significantly increases cutting speed and reduces labor cost through automation of the operation. The specialized automated equipment can be used in a wide range of environments from factory floor to outdoors in a shipyard or construction project. Both mobile or portable implementation can be used in "the field" and cutting speed is not compromised. The process has been demonstrated, using a portable robot, cutting 3-inch thick high strength steel plate at 70 inches per minute. The project to develop this technology is sponsored by the U.S. Navy Small Business Innovation Research Program, and on-going development effort is working to achieve cutting speeds above 100 inches per minute. The equipment can be set-up to cut any type of metal. Depending on the configuration, the system uses one or two Miller ProHeat 35 Induction Power Supplies.

Oxy-Fuel Cutting – What Is Required for a Fully Automated Process
A perfect Automation includes the process know how, a consistent cutting quality and a safe process. There are some market players who have automated oxy-fuel cutting. There is more to be done. In this presentation, I will describe what has been done so far and what is still missing. It has long been thought to be the most complicated process and one with the lowest degree of automation. For these and other reasons, Oxy-Fuel has often been overlooked in preference to other cutting methods. The cutting process has become easier to perform, cut quality is higher than it ever has been and the overall results are consistently better. I will explain what has been done so far and what will be the next steps in Oxy-Fuel cutting.
