HC5 | Treating the Opioid Crisis: Workplace Challenges and Remedies (Room Starvine 6-7)

Opioid misuse and dependence remain one of the nation’s most challenging public health crises. The most widely disseminated opioid-related lost productivity estimates include premature deaths and incarcerations — making it difficult for employers to assess and respond to the epidemic’s risk to their workforce. This panel, led by Brian Gifford, will describe substance misuse and dependence among an employed population, paying special attention to the link between pain medications and lost work time. Panelists will discuss how employers can assess the opioid epidemic’s impact on the lives of their workers and the performance of their businesses, developing effective substance-abuse benefits for employees and family members in need of help.
