Tracks:
Operational and Network Transformation
Speaker(s):
Ted Boone, AVP, Engineering, Cox Communications;
John Holobinko, Director of Strategy, Cable Access Networks, Cisco Systems, Inc.
Moderator(s):
Rob Ames, Executive Director Solutions Engineering, Cox Communications;
Proactive Network Modeling/PNM models use existing data to mitigate known problems. Next-gen modeling techniques happen in advance, before deployments, to forecast growth rates and create feedback loops that “train” the model. In essence, these are things network engineers used to do in spreadsheets, and now do with Hadoop and other software tools, Cox’s Ted Boone explains. Also in this session: How to achieve a higher confidence level when predicting peak data rates, so as to scale the network more accurately. Cisco’s John Holobinko presents an analysis of actual peak data consumption on 10+ CCAP cores, correlated with subscriber numbers. Intent: To figure out whether the impact of Gigabit services impacts core peak bandwidth, and whether sampled data can be used to save power.
