The business of hauling data over fiber from cell towers just got two new through lanes -- fronthaul and midhaul -- in addition to known backhaul domains. This three-part session starts with a characterization of the burgeoning 5G mobile sector, from Infinera’s Jon Baldry. Next, Ciena’s Brian Levallee details the state of the Cloud-Centralized Radio Access Network (C-RAN) architecture, and the changes to packet transport networks needed to accommodate 5G fronthauling. Lastly, CableLabs’ Jing Wang details a technique called Delta-Sigma Digitization to facilitate 5G small cell deployments on HFC infrastructure.
