Fujian Fuxin Special Steel, a flat steel producer located in mainland China, runs a production line for stainless steel consisting of an electric arc furnace (EAF), argon oxygen decarburization with lance (AOD-L), ladle furnace (LF), vacuum oxygen decarburization (VOD, since 2014) and continuous casting machine (CCM). The main reason for extending this production line with a VOD unit was to increase the production flexibility, especially for grades that require low (C+N) contents. In this paper, a more detailed view will be given on the design and arrangement of the equipment, as well as a modified metallurgical process sequence tailor-made for the individual process conditions at Fujian Fuxin Special Steel.
