Fluidic Coherent Jet Injector and Multi-Directional Fluidic Burner: Operating Experience (Room 406)

Praxair Inc.’s fluidic CoJet® injector and its OPTIFIRE™ fluidic burner allow EAF operators to deflect the flame of the burner in a direction of choice during the scrap melting phase of electric arc furnace operation. The flame deflection can be done remotely and can be incorporated in the PLC. By deflecting the flame in a direction of choice, the operator has the ability to point the flame toward heavier scrap that needs to be heated preferentially. This paper aims to discuss the benefits of these injectors using data from trials at customer sites.
