Different raw material preparation techniques have developed to pelletise coarse concentrates. After examining the quality of both green and fired balls, high-pressure grinding rolls (HPGR) was found to be very effective in improving the pelletizing performance of a coarse hematite concentrate. Tests were further carried to introduce a fine high-alumina goethite ore into the HPGR-processed concentrate. It was found the pellets fired from the blend containing 10% goethite ore are able to achieve an average compression strength of over 250 kg. Usage of goethitic ore in the pelletizing process has been demonstrated to be difficult in the past.
