A Revised Concept of Quality Performance Measurement (Room 315)

It is traditional in the steelmaking industry to measure a product's quality performance using the metallic yield concept; however, losses can be invisible to several types of models. Those losses are related to how clients pay for their demands. The tubes quality loss model proposes the process optimization, not only by avoiding weight loss, but enhancing the geometry of the product to maximize profit. On the studied process, variables are monitored in several spots of the production line, making it possible to use them to feed physical models that optimize the geometry, favoring the variable of interest.
