Tracks: Safety & Health

Slick walking surfaces are a hazard that many steel manufacturing facilities combat on a routine basis, whether they be due to weather, leaks or inherent to the process itself. Often, slick walking surfaces can be avoided until mitigated. However, consideration should be given to employees tasked with addressing a leak or spill, working in winter weather, or working around oily or wet processes where avoidance is not always feasible. This presentation demonstrates how one steel manufacturer trained its employees in using modified walking techniques for these scenarios and experienced a reduction in slip-related injuries year-over-year following implementation.
